The Countryside
The countryside of Quercy changes throughout the year: The countryside emerges from the winter in March, and blossom on the many fruit trees and wild flowers decorate the area as the field crops establish and make a green patchwork for the coming couple of months.
Depending on rainfall, the shade of green gently gives way to a drier brown hue which gently increases through the summer, before autum rain restores green tinges around the harvested fields. Interrrupting this all too briefly are the bright yellow fields of sunflowers which all too soon turn their backs on the sun and bow their heads to await the harvest.
Once the fruit and wine harvests are completed in mid-October there is an all too brief period of glorious autumn colour, with the common Virginia Creeper adding touches of bright red to shades of yellow and brown to go with the vibrant shades of the vines as they die back for the winter.
The countryside then lies in its leafless winter shades for the next couple of months until the spring warmth starts the cycle again.
