Sights
Vieux Mirou is in Tarn-et-Garonne in Southwest France, and very near the point where it borders with both Lot and Lot-et-Garonne. It is equidistant between the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees Mountains, and approximately on the same latitude as Nice and Cannes. This region is one of the most beautiful, tranquil and unspoilt areas of France, with its strong agricultural traditions and beautiful rolling countryside.
The Scenic
Being so close to Aquitaine, the large rivers of Lot, Tarn, Garonne and Dordogne and their tributaries have all helped to form our beautiful countryside. They provide the rich soil for the fruit, wheat, maize, lavender and sunflowers. They formed the high outcrops of rock on which the Bastide towns perch and, of course, the caves in which our ancestors painted their animals. Add to this the lovely white stone of the Quercy Blanc region and you have views to leave you breathless!
Towns
The local towns include Cahors with its ancient towered bridge and half timbered houses; Agen, a town with theatre, cinema, museums, shops and all the attractions you can want; and Villeneuve-sur-Lot which has an unusual brick built church, lots of narrow alleyways and many boutiques.
The Pictoresque
Places really worth seeing include St Cirq Lapopie and Rocamadour both clinging to the hillside with wonderful rooftops; Moissac with its Abbey with the carved stone doorway and famous Cloisters; the bastide towns of Penne d'Agenais, Tournon d'Agenais and Pujols with amazing views from the top; Lauzerte and Montflanquin with their arcaded squares. Alternatively, you could just meander along one of the rivers, the Lot, Tarn or Garonne for a day, watching the kingfishers and birds of prey.
Wine
Many of the local chateaux were built during the 100 years wars and so passed to and fro between the English and the French. Some of them were built with money from wines, such as Duras, Buzet, Montbazillac and the Cahors area. All of them are different and many of them are open to the public.
